VAL D'ORCIA AND SURROUNDINGS
Podere Pietreta is located two kilometers from Radicofani. An ancient fortress and papal outpost of great strategic importance, Radicofani is a splendid medieval village in the Val d’Orcia. Unmissable destination for those who want to rediscover the most remote and authentic face of Tuscany, it boasts a historical, artistic and landscape context to be explored to the full.
The heart of the village of Radicofani is full of secrets and wonders that are offered to visitors. At every step you will come across places of incredible beauty, ancient churches that house unique treasures and the stone statue of Ghino di Tacco, a symbol of the authentic soul of the town. Walking around the village or sitting on a bench in the ancient municipal garden, it will seem that time has stopped.
The village is dominated by the splendid Rocca. Famous for the exploits of the brigand Ghino di Tacco who, banished from his lands, conquered the fortress and became the lord of the city, it is the main attraction of Radicofani.
Perched on a cliff of 896 meters, it dominates the village and the splendid surrounding landscape with its crenellated tower. From here you can enjoy a spectacular view of Monte Cetona, Val d’Orcia and Monte Amiata.
Coming down from the historic center of Radicofani, you can reach the Casale della Posta. Built by the Medici in the 1500's, it is framed by a double row of cypresses. Distinguished by a façade with a double loggia, it welcomed travelers and pilgrims of the Via Francigena until the end of the 19th century. Among these, also illustrious personalities, such as Casanova, Stendhal, Charles Dickens and Goethe.
Podere Pietreta is also the ideal starting point for short-range excursions (30/60 minutes) to some of the most attractive places in Tuscany: Bagno Vignoni, Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Radicofani, San Quirico d'Orcia, Chiusi, Cetona, Cortona, Arezzo, Siena… In 20 minutes you are in the woods of Monte Amiata, Umbria is half an hour away by car.
Another absolutely exceptional feature is the presence, no more than 30 minutes away, of numerous thermal baths and spa's among the most renowned: in Tuscany the Terme di San Casciano Bagni, the pools of Sarteano, Bagni San Filippo, the hydrothermal complexes of Chianciano etc.
Val d'Orcia is located in the heart of Tuscany, south of Siena, surrounded by the hill systems that divide it from Lazio and Umbria and extends along the route of one of the most beautiful Italian roads, the Roman via Cassia, to reach the slopes of Monte Amiata.
In 2005, the Val d’Orcia was included by UNESCO among the World Heritage List of Humanity.
The Valley offers natural and artistic riches of great value, so much so that the five municipalities that compose it have constituted the Artistic, Natural and Cultural Park of the Val d'Orcia with the aim of guaranteeing the dynamic conservation of the environment, of artistic and natural assets.

The Val d'Orcia is also a precious food and wine destination: it is located in the center of the Chianti and Nobile di Montepulciano area, it is the home of pici, grazing meats, forest mushrooms and, above all, of exceptional cheeses, which are the result of the competition between local traditions and the recent insertions of Sardinian sheep farming...
Throughout the year there are numerous historical folklore events, typical product festivals and craft fairs, cultural events, theatrical performances and musical.
